ROWNOLA
RowNOLA is NORC's initiative to increase access to the sport of rowing in New Orleans and provide a positive environment for student athletes to prosper.
One of the unique and defining missions of RowNOLA is to bring the sport of rowing to the students at schools and other social/academic settings. The program will also address cost and accessibility issues that may prevent an athlete from committing to the sport and the team long-term. Effectively, we want the sport of rowing to encourage students to adopt a healthy, fit lifestyle, in a team environment.
The goal of RowNOLA is to create a three pronged approach to get kids rowing.
-
Introducing kids to the sport via on-water learn-to-row events and by visiting schools with indoor rowing equipment (via a mobile erg room travel trailer).
-
Creating a low-stakes, high-fun recreational team to encourage long-term participation in the sport without the pressure to compete.
-
Creating a scholarship fund to allow motivated athletes to participate on the NORC competitive travel team, which practices 4-5x per week, with travel to regional and national regattas.
